A pool cage in this part of Florida is doing three jobs at once: keeping leaves and frogs out of the water, keeping mosquitoes off the deck, and taking a beating from sun and storms. When a roof panel splits or a wall panel is flapping, you feel it the same afternoon. Over the Top Screens repairs pool enclosure screens and does full cage rescreens for homeowners in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota, Palmetto, and the rest of Manatee and Sarasota County. Jared Freddes has been stretching pool cage mesh for over 20 years in business and 25 years in the trade. Family-owned shop at 2901 42nd St W, Bradenton. Fully insured. Roof panels, wall panels, and the stuff people ignore
Pool enclosure screen fails in patterns. Roof panels go first on older cages. UV hits them all day. A small split becomes a sail. Then the spline starts walking out of the rafter channel. Wall panels fail at dog height, at the corners, and wherever a storm shoved a chair. Kick plates take the abuse at the base; when they are bent, the screen above them never stays tight. Fasteners and clips loosen. A cage can look “fine” from the kitchen and still have a rafter that has started to move. If we only patch the mesh and ignore the aluminum, you will call us again after the next blow. Structural aluminum and new enclosure work is covered on aluminum screen enclosures. Screen-only work stays here. “Jared is super professional and knowledgeable about not only screened in porches but also everyday household problems. He came and fixed my porch screen and after he was done noticed I had a piece of siding that had a few holes in it. He went to Home Depot a bought a piece and replaced it for free. I highly recommend Jared and Over the Top Screens, they are are 11 out of 10 and I will definitely call them back in the future.” — Zack M., Google review. The job was the cage, the cleanup, and screens that look like they belong on the house — not a patchwork of leftover rolls.
What we do on a cage
- Single-panel or multi-panel repair when the rest of the mesh still has life
- Full rescreen — walls and roof — when the cage is uniformly tired
- Spline replacement and channel cleaning so new mesh actually holds
- Kick plates, door panels, closers, and latches on the cage doors
- Fastener and clip tightening we can see from the ladders we are already on
- Pet doors in a wall panel if the dog is the repeat offender
We will not sell you a full rescreen because one panel on the north wall is torn. We also will not pretend a 15-year-old roof is going to survive another summer if it is already chalking and splitting. You get the honest version.
Materials for a Florida pool cage
Chlorine mist, sun, and rain are a different mix than a shaded front porch.
- Fiberglass screen — standard for most cages. Airflow, visibility, the usual look.
- Pet mesh — for the lower walls. Pool decks are a dog highway.
- No-see-um — when gnats own the deck at dusk. Tighter mesh, still a screened cage, not a sunroom.
- Aluminum mesh — used more selectively; talk it through if you want the extra toughness.
Roof work is not the place to cheap out on spline or tension. A slack roof panel collects water and fails early. We stretch it like we mean it.
How the job runs
Most cages start with a walk-around: count bad panels, check doors, look at the roof, note anything bent. You get a price before we order a roll. On a full rescreen we stage the site, work section by section, and leave the deck usable — we are not interested in your HOA photographing a junk pile. Lakewood Ranch and similar communities often have access rules and quiet hours. Tell us on the first call. We work with that. The shop is in Bradenton; the route through Lakewood Ranch is a normal week, not a special trip we have to “see if we can fit in.” If the screened area is a house lanai without a pool, lanai screen repair is the better page. Brand-new patio screening is patio screen installation. Sliders from the house onto the deck: sliding glass door repair.
After a storm
We get the “the cage looks twisted” calls after a bad night. Sometimes it is a few panels. Sometimes a beam moved. We will tell you which. Screen repair is what we do every week; if the aluminum needs more than a field fix, we talk about that before anyone climbs. Safety around the pool is not a marketing line — it is why you had a cage to begin with.
